2009 Silkie NationalsI never dreamed that the Nationals would ever occur so close to my home and that I would actually get to
attend. I met some of the most amazing people, some I've dealt with more often through a poultry board, email or occasionally
on the phone. I was sad to see those new friends load up their vehicles to prepare for the trip home. Yes, the website has changed once again. But I actually have a reason for the change. New breeds, new colors and
some changes in direction. I've added Salmon Faverolles to the mix. Oscar and his
girls are beyond sweet and so personable. Then there is Prissy and Shoester, a blue mottled female d'Uccle and her partner
in crime a black mottled d'Uccle. These two are very intelligent and know just what it takes to get what they want. One other change, I've gone all white with my flock of Silkies. I still have those double silver gene peeps hatching
each time, that's good except so far every one has been a male. Shall I tell you there has been a bumper crop of males hatched
here in the last year? I've had entire hatches of nothing but males. I have five boys now that all hatched at the same time,
not a girl among them. There has been much sadness here in the past six or
seven months. I lost my best friend, Keepher, to old age. She was my constant companion and my guardian. The Dwarf died earlier
this Summer which changed the whole dynamic of the coop. And last month I lost my Red Kitty to pneumonia and kidney failure.
All I can say is that its a good thing there is constantly new life springing up in the coops or it would have been a much
rougher Summer. Uploading pics to this site takes an incredible amount of time but
I'm slowing making it happen. I need more and better pics of the Silkies just to show them off a bit better. I'm grabbing
them when I can. You'll see Oscar, the Faverolle, and his two girls. Of course their is Prissy and Shoester, the d'Uccles.
And any other pics that I take that are worth showing. Have a great Holiday Season.
