Where did the time go?Its been a wild and rocky year. I imagine that is true for so many others. I have friends on the verge of losing
their farms, my sister suffered a devastating fire, my old dog and my old cat are truly showing their advanced age. And to
top it off the Dwarf is causing me some concern. Everyone should have an ugly little bird like the Dwarf in their coops. She's
a barometer for what is right and what might be going wrong.
We've had some big changes around here. I sold
all of my colored birds, except for Mic and Allie. I made a committment to them and will maintain that committment in Claude's
memory. I have a group of breeding Grays that I will be selling. Why? Because I've decided to go all white. I don't
have the room for all the breeding groups in so many different colors so I've come to the conclusion I need to focus on
one color. I'll keep my pets, Dwarf and Big Guy (another Claude bird) who is blind and doesn't need the stress of
relocating yet again.
My friend bailed on keeping show birds. His Hamburgs and Dutch settled in very nicely. And
when the Guineas aren't looking I turn them out to free range. Which reminds me of the day this Summer when I went looking
to see where everyone was. No dogs, no Hamburgs. Where were they? I stepped off the back porch and almost immediately a Hamburg
hen came out talking to me, then the roo, then a dog, and another dog until all four dogs were out from under the porch. One
bird was still missing but out she strolled. Somehow it went from me not being able to leave a bird out with my dogs to them
all hunkered down escaping the heat by laying in the dirt under the porch.
The sun is high and bright so that signals
the time to go open up and let the birds out for the day. I swear I'll look at my website more than once a year, I hope.
